By J E Solomon
It happened many times in the past in my sleep
The first time it seemed as if I was dying
Then I realized I was airborne and flying
High up at altitudes incredibly steep.
I must have been thrilled by the wingless flight
For I came down twice and rose again, gliding
Enchanted by the unique experience I kept smiling
And yet I couldn’t tell if it was day or night.
Meanwhile everything around was radiantly white
But the joy of it all was the utmost silence
In sharp contrast to Earth’s chaos and violence
No wonder everyone I saw looked cheerful and bright.
Somehow I was jolted back into consciousness
With a shock that left me feeling so sad
And I figured something must have gone bad
As to cause a return to earthly consciousness.
Amazingly every once in a while
Whenever I could get a good sleep
One that was profoundly deep
I’ld fly again and glide with a smile.
