I have always known that computers are just like humans. They have MEMORY; they can be either FAST or SLOW. They have the innate capacity to fall ASLEEP. Computers have the ability to OPEN and CLOSE, to ENTER, to RUN and even EXIT. They have arrows that can shoot UP or DOWN, LEFT or RIGHT and besides, they can START and END any APPLICATION. Whenever necessary, a computer can provide an ESCAPE route.
I also knew computers can be sick sometimes and be infected by all kinds of VIRUSES that can be worm-like, for instance the DAPROSY WORM, and the DOOMJUICE WORM, that affected computers previously attacked by the MYDOOM WORM, among many others.
It was in regard to computer diseases that, in October, last year, I was forced to rush my laptop to the nearest computer clinic. It was a Staples Clinic here in New Jersey. The laptop was admitted for 3 days and discharged, and I thought it had been treated. Not so, I was shocked to realize that nothing seemed to have been done at all about the disease. It had to be taken back to the same Staples clinic for another 3 days.
Finally, a very reliable specialist got to treat my laptop over the weekend. You want to know the diagnosis? I couldn’t believe it. My laptop has had something similar to kidney stones. A kidney stone is a hard mass formed in the kidneys, typically consisting of insoluble calcium compounds. Interestingly my laptop had been infected by hard-to-remove unwanted downloads that had entrenched themselves in the system. I watched the Specialist break every kidney stone that was locked inside the laptop. It was a search, identify, smash and remove kind of operation. It all lasted about an hour, including explanations and pieces of advice to avoid recurrence of future computer kidney stones.
I wish I have the expertise of this particular Specialist. I could become a computer doctor-on-wheels so my clients won’t have to leave the comfort of their homes for my services. Maybe, it’s time for me to do a career change. I love my current job, though. It brings me closer to humans with actual kidney stones who I could sympathize with. Not a computer with kidney stones or viruses.
