The celebration today, October 24, 2010, of the first annual Global Oneness Day by the Humanity’s Team, brings so much joy into the hearts of all peace-loving peoples of the world. More especially, it brings to the fore the emerging realities of our changing world; the realization and acceptance by people of different faiths and race of who we really are – One life, One spirit, same One God.
The Humanity’s Team is a spiritual movement working towards Global Oneness. It has adherents from more than 90 countries on six continents. Various organizations, individuals and religious groups have worked together to finally set aside a day dedicated to celebrate world Oneness. The Team wants the United Nations to recognize the day and has submitted a petition to the world body.
If you think that “the world does not have to be the way it is – and that individual people can change it…”. If you believe that “humanity is good and has unlimited potential, and that social transformation starts with personal transformation”. And if you aspire to support “universal values such as respect, justice, peace, dignity, freedom, responsibility and cooperation….” Finally, if you are convinced that “the time for change is now” then sign the declaration and be a part of a great transformation.
The petition is available for signing by all who cherish and desire universal peace and harmony. See link at the end of this article.
This celebration is the first time in history and it is intended to bring Oneness in peoples’ lives in practical ways.
The only way we can stop religious radicalism and put paid to heinous extremist acts like 9-11, suicide bombing, genocide, etc. is for all mankind to develop genuine love and appreciation of one another regardless of our belief systems. And such a change in our attitude towards one another cannot be achieved by isolating ourselves from others. We need to see beyond the institutional labels and identifications that have divided mankind for ages in order to be able to live in harmony – socially and spiritually.
This is only the first year. I have faith, boundless faith, that come 20 years from now, Global Oneness Day will become the Christmas or Id-ul-fitr for all peace-lovers the world over, to be celebrated with as much zeal and excitement as generated by the two most popular faith-based celebrations.
