The first annual grand picnic organized by the United Ghanaian Associations of New Jersey on July 4 was a big success. Attendance was great, food was in abundance, and the weather was excellent.
The event brought together for the first time 14 various Ghanaian associations of New Jersey. It was held at the South Mountain Reservation Park in West Orange, New Jersey.
The associations involved were The First Ghanaian Society of NJ, Kwahuman Association of NJ, Brong Ahafo Asssociation of NJ, Brothers and Sisters of NJ, Mfantseman Association of NJ, Friends Soccer Club of NJ and Ghanaian Association of NJ.
Others are, Akyem Association of NJ, Mampong Kontonkyi Association of NJ, Akuapeman Association of NJ, New Jersey Ladies, Inc., Ghanaian Civic Association of NJ, Obuaseman Association of NJ and the Ewe Association of NJ.
A number of sporting activities were organized to grace the occasion. The main sporting event, soccer, was won by the Friends Soccer Club, who beat the First Ghanaian Society of NJ 2-1 in the finals. The tug-of-war competitions produced the most fun, especially for the children and the women.
