“A feeling comes and it may go. How can I judge that it will stay forever, when my act does not involve judgment and decision?” ― ERICH FROMM, theArt of Loving
The Heart and the Mind are totally different when it comes to what they do. The Mind doesn’t FEEL; it reasons and makes decisions. The Heart doesn’t THINK or REASON; it feels and activates the passion/emotion we call love, that typically is unstable. Feelings don’t last, and that’s why we often hear, “I love u dearly” one time, and later, it’s all bitterness and expressions of hateful sentiments. Unfortunately, what the eyes don’t see, the heart doesn’t grieve about.
Love is a decision, it’s important, therefore, to judge Mind activity and Heart passions carefully before one rushes to the altar to say, “Yes, I do.” You don’t want to be the next Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian (breaking up after only 72 days of reciting “Yes, I do.”) Perhaps you also don't want to be like actor Tom Cruise, who, acting under uncontrolled emotions, went crazy on an Oprah Winfrey Show in 2010 to express his deep love for Katie Holmes. Two years later, in 2012, their five-year marriage ended in a divorce.
”The first moves of a man into a love affair are bound to be physical. If his emotion is more than a passing lust, then the attractions of mind and spirit will follow later.” – BARBARA CARTLAND, Love, Life & Sex
